Whether cooking for two or looking for quality grilling and smoking on the go, the Slow ‘N Sear charcoal basket brings the flexibility of two zone cooking perfected by the Slow ‘N Sear to your 18″ grill.

  • The Charcoal Basket(TM) holds TWICE as much charcoal as a standard grill basket bringing you:
    • Longer duration hassle-free smoking
    • Larger and hotter sear zone
  • Double wall barrier effectively separates direct heat from the indirect cooking surface just like the Slow ‘N Sear.
  • Ventilated Basket bottom keeps small pieces of fuel from falling through the grill grate and makes clean-up after the cook a breeze!
  • Made from aluminized metal or stainless steel; fits 18″ kettles and the 18″/22″ Jumbo Joe® grills.  Also makes a great upgrade to standard charcoal baskets used on the bottom grate of the Weber Summit® Charcoal.
  • May fit other models.  Please review the product dimensions in the photo gallery.

Description

Q:  How is this any different than the charcoal baskets I use/came with my grill/I see in the store?

A:  The Slow ‘N Sear Charcoal basket was designed to bring the range of hassle-free cooking experiences that the Slow ‘N Sear provides to smaller grills.  The first thing you’ll notice is that the Slow ‘N Sear Charcoal basket is MUCH bigger.  In the photo (left) the two products were placed in a 22″ kettle to emphasize size difference.  The Slow ‘N Sear Charcoal Basket holds twice as much fuel meaning longer burn time for low ‘n slow cooks, and a larger sear zone.  You’ll also notice that the Slow ‘N Sear Charcoal Basket has a double wall barrier between the fuel and the indirect cooking surface of the grill.  This helps keep temperatures stable and prevents “hot spots” on the indirect side.

Q:  Can I use the Slow ‘N Sear Charcoal Basket in a 22″ kettle?

Yes, but you won’t get the same performance of the standard Slow ‘N Sear/Slow ‘N Sear Plus.  Not only does the Charcoal Basket have a smaller diameter/capacity, it’s shorter than the Slow ‘N Sear.  The lower height of the Basket will not be as effective in creating a uniform thermal barrier between the coals and the indirect side of the grill, therefore you may see warmer pit temperatures the closer you get to the coals.

That said, the Charcoal Basket is an excellent introduction to the capabilities of the Slow ‘N Sear and will give you a taste of the full possibilities the Slow ‘N Sear offers.

    5 out of 5 PERFECT

Grabbed one of these shortly after the release. It arrived much faster than promised. First cook was a nice rack of Loin Backs on a Jumbo Joe. I did the test on the worst day I could. Rain, wind, cold. 45ish. I did not use a mav but instead stuck a thermapen in the top vent from time to time to monitor temp. Followed your directions exact. It ran a good 6 hrs. The Ribs were GREAT!

The basket, like the SnS is a winner. Thanks for yet another fantastic product.

Jon’s pic didn’t upload, so we’ll point out he’s talking about a ribs cook

    5 out of 5 Wasn't sure

When Dave announced that he was releasing a SNS for the Jumbo Joe, I was was excited. When I found out that there was no water reservoir, I was bummed. Dave re-assured me that that I would be pleased with the unit, so I ordered one. I received it today and immediately threw a slab of baby backs on. I’ve got to say that these were some of the best babies I’ve ever eaten, tender, moist and delicious. The basket held more charcoal than I needed, and the barrier between the coals and the food provided the optimal 2 zone cooking area you would want.
This is my second SNS and will soon be purchasing a Weber 26″ as well as a SNS to go with it.
In my humble opinion, if you are purchasing the charcoal basket, spend the extra and get the stainless model, you will be pleased for a long time to come.
Purchasing a SNS product is money well spent.

    Question

Why didn’t you make the 18 in sns out of stainless. Wouldn’t have hesitated to pay extra

To the man asking about stainless steel, there are two options. You can select the stainless steel version, as I certainly will, for 54.95$ or get the cheaper one for 34.95$.

Thank you! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’ve been a fan of yours and this product since amazingribs.com and followed you over here to your new adventure and am proud to call myself a “Searhead”. Even though I don’t have one yet. Am in the process of getting a new Weber Performer to remedy that. I do however have a Jumbo Joe that my wife and I take down to the beach when we have our Bonfires here on the Oregon Coast. You just made my day David.
